The 20-year-old French cyclist Paul Seixas won the Giro di Lombardia on Saturday to claim the first Monument victory of his career. France 24 and the Guardian reported that Seixas attacked solo 19 kilometres from the finish line in Como, Italy. Vuelta champion Enric Mas of Spain finished in second place, 48 seconds behind, while Italy's Giulio Ciccone finished third. [1][2]
France 24 and the Guardian both reported that Seixas became the fourth-youngest winner of a Monument race in history. France 24 added that five-time defending champion Tadej Pogacar missed the race after a crash at the Vuelta a Espana two months earlier. [1][2]
Before the race began, riders staged a protest over safety concerns that delayed the start by five minutes, BBC Sport reported. Organisers completed the countdown in Bergamo, Italy, but the peloton remained stationary. Remco Evenepoel addressed the crowd, stating that there were too many incidents happening with vehicles in races and highlighting safety issues. [2][3]
Seixas rides for the UCI WorldTeam Decathlon CMA CGM Team. He previously won the junior time trial at the 2024 UCI Road World Championships and the 2025 Tour de l'Avenir, and became the youngest rider to finish in the top 10 of a UCI World Tour stage race at the 2025 Criterium du Dauphine. [7]
