An 18-year-old provisional driver, Indika Bambrick Samarasinghe, has been granted bail after spending six nights in custody following a car crash in Newcastle. The Daily Mail and ABC News Australia reported that the teenager was released after a bail review hearing. As FTMQ News reported earlier, he was initially refused bail after his car allegedly struck a crowd of supporters. [1][2][6]

The crash occurred on the morning of October 3 in Newcastle, north of Sydney. The Daily Mail reported that Samarasinghe allegedly lost control of his gold 2006 BMW cabriolet. ABC News Australia reported that thousands of fans had lined the streets to see off the team ahead of the NRL grand final when the vehicle hit ten people. [1][2]

According to ABC News Australia, Samarasinghe faces nine charges, including three counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, three counts of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and three counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct. The Daily Mail reported that a five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man were critically injured in the crash, though their conditions later improved to serious. [1][2]

The Newcastle Knights are a professional Australian rugby league team based in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. The club competes in the National Rugby League and has played in the top-tier competition since 1988. [4]
