New Zealand native Stephen Fleming has suggested that the England men's Test cricket team should be led by someone from England, BBC News reported. Fleming is the latest overseas head coach appointed to lead the national side. [1][2]

Fleming will take charge of his first series as Test coach in South Africa in December, according to BBC News. He succeeded his fellow New Zealander Brendon McCullum, who continues as the coach of the white-ball squad. [1]

Since 1999, only two Englishmen have led the England Test team, according to BBC News. Those coaches were Peter Moores, who served two separate terms, and Chris Silverwood, while Ashley Giles managed the white-ball side for a period. [1]

Over the same period, overseas coaches have regularly taken charge of the squad, BBC News reported. Zimbabweans Duncan Fletcher and Andy Flower, alongside Australian Trevor Bayliss, have all previously coached the team. [1]
