The Centre for Social Justice has identified 3,000 welfare hotspots across England and Wales, the Daily Mail reported. In these areas, at least half of all working-age residents claim out-of-work benefits. [1]

According to the Daily Mail, analysis shows that unemployed benefit claimants now outnumber employed workers in thousands of British neighbourhoods. More than 150 neighbourhoods recorded out-of-work benefit rates exceeding 80 percent. [1]

Former Conservative Party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith stated that the figures demonstrate how unemployment has gradually become accepted as a fact of life since the pandemic, the Daily Mail reported. [1]

British media coverage of welfare dependencies includes the television series Benefits Street. The Channel 4 documentary series followed the lives of benefit claimants and depicted individuals dependent on state support. [2]
