The South Korean government has demanded a comprehensive overhaul of cybersecurity safeguards following breaches at seven major financial institutions last week. Deutsche Welle reported that the attacks involved artificial intelligence tools and led to the leakage of private data belonging to thousands of customers. [1]

According to Deutsche Welle, officials warned that AI-assisted hacking methods could be used to target government agencies and other private sectors beyond banking. Korea Electric Power Corp. and two of the largest churches in the country confirmed on Wednesday that their online systems had also been illegally accessed. [1]

South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea, has a population of about 52 million people. About half of its residents live in the Seoul metropolitan area. [2]
