Online fashion retailer Asos has warned customers that cyber criminals possess detailed profiles of potentially millions of users, BBC News reported on Thursday. The update was issued after hackers contacted BBC News to reveal that the breach extended far beyond basic information. [1]
According to BBC News, the compromised records contain customer names, physical addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and customer numbers. The stolen data also includes specific search terms that users entered on the site, such as reclaimed vintage and Asos petite. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, the incident began on Tuesday when hackers sent unauthorized notifications to users through the Asos mobile application. Those initial messages claimed that Asos was hacked and threatened to leak compromised Snowflake data on Telegram. [2][4][5]
Asos previously acknowledged that basic personal details might have been accessed, as FTMQ News reported. Following the initial app notifications on Tuesday, company shares dropped by more than 10 percent. [4][5]
BBC News reported that experts fear scammers could use the detailed search records and personal contact information to create potent phishing emails or phone calls targeted at affected customers. [1]
