Australian Greens senator Sarah Hanson Young stated she does not intend to run for the party leadership again, the Guardian reported. Her announcement follows a leadership vote that took place after former leader Larissa Waters stepped down at the end of September. [1]
According to the Guardian, Hanson Young contested the position in a three way race against fellow senators Mehreen Faruqi and David Shoebridge. Shoebridge ultimately won the vote to become the new party leader. Hanson Young noted that she had put forward a vision for a positive and progressive force during her leadership campaign. [1]
Hanson Young represents South Australia in the federal parliament. As the Guardian reported, the senator is scheduled to mark 20 years in parliament next year. [1]
The Australian Greens have also recently taken action on international human rights issues. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the party called on the Australian federal government to stop digital platforms from livestreaming a planned military execution in the United States. [7]
