A court in Pakistan has granted Sara Sharif's paternal grandfather guardianship of her five siblings, BBC News reported on October 10, 2026. The legal ruling follows years of legal uncertainty after the murder of 10-year-old Sara in 2023. [1][2]
All five children are currently aged between four and 16 years old, BBC News reported. They have been living in Pakistan with their grandfather since 2023. During court proceedings, the children spoke to the judge, and the eldest child stated that the siblings were settled and comfortable. [1]
The grandfather stated that the five children will keep their British citizenship, according to BBC News. This will allow them the option to return to the United Kingdom if they choose to do so in the future. [1]
Sara Sharif was murdered on August 8, 2023, by her father Urfan Sharif and stepmother Beinash Batool. Her body was found two days later at her family home in Woking, Surrey, England, showing signs of regular and severe abuse. Urfan Sharif, Beinash Batool, and Urfan's brother Faisal Malik fled to Pakistan on August 9, before being arrested at Gatwick Airport on September 13 after voluntarily flying back to the United Kingdom.
