Irish national broadcaster RTE has admitted that removing a Palestinian flag necklace from an episode of Cheap Irish Homes was a mistake, according to reports from independent.ie and irishtimes.com. The footage was edited in post-production without informing or obtaining consent from the show participant. [1][2][3][4]
Claire Molloy appeared in an episode of the property programme last month wearing the necklace, irishtimes.com reported. Following the edit, Ms Molloy lodged a complaint with both RTE and the regulator Coimisiun na Mean. She claimed that this selective editing compromised the obligations of the broadcaster to fairness and impartiality. [2]
RTE confirmed the footage was edited and stated that a mistake was made in how impartiality guidelines were interpreted, according to irishtimes.com. The broadcaster announced that it will now review its guidelines and processes following the incident. [1][2][4]
