Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on October 10 after midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur received a red card in the 78th minute. The BBC and the Daily Mail reported that Bentancur was sent off for headbutting Manchester United player Luke Shaw during a brawl. Despite playing with ten men, Tottenham equalised when Dominic Solanke scored a header in the second minute of added time. [1][2][3]

The BBC reported that Bentancur had been brought on as a second-half substitute and was on the pitch for twelve minutes before the incident occurred. The Daily Mail added that former player Gary Neville called the action stupid after Bentancur lashed out at Shaw. Following the red card, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi stated that he kissed Bentancur and thanked him for providing a spark to the team. [1][3]

De Zerbi, an Italian professional football head coach, currently manages Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United manager Michael Carrick expressed frustration that his team failed to secure a win against ten men. According to the Daily Mail, Carrick admitted it hurt to be booed by supporters after the final whistle. [2][11]

The result leaves Manchester United with six points from their opening six league games, which the Daily Mail reported is their worst start to a league season in 40 years. The BBC noted that Tottenham remain winless in the Premier League after six matches. [1][2]
