Delegates from Ukraine, Europe and the United States are gathering in Miami on Friday to discuss proposals to break the stalemate in the war with Russia. DW and France 24 reported that US President Donald Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will present ideas developed during recent discussions with both sides. [1][4]

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the upcoming meeting on Thursday, according to DW and France 24. Two American sources told Agence France-Presse, via France 24, that the representatives seek to establish a unified proposal for peace. [1][4]

The diplomatic initiative comes alongside recent violence in Ukraine. DW reported that Russian strikes killed more than 70 people this week, including 30 civilians when buses were attacked in Kramatorsk and 22 people when a missile hit an apartment building in the Chernihiv region. [1]

Separately, the New York Post reported that Jared Kushner and Russian adviser Kirill Dmitriev held talks regarding bringing an American investor into the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Reuters and U.S. News and World Report also stated that the United States and Russia are exploring potential gas sales to Europe. [3][6][7]

There have been multiple rounds of peace negotiations since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks recognition of occupied lands, NATO guarantees, and reduced sanctions, while President Zelenskyy demands a total troop withdrawal, a ceasefire, and the return of prisoners.
