Labour candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali has won the Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary byelection in north London. The Guardian, RTÉ and the London Evening Standard reported that Abdi-Wali defeated Green Party leader Zack Polanski to hold the seat for Labour. The Guardian noted that Abdi-Wali secured just over 45 per cent of the total vote, while the Green Party conceded defeat after finishing in second place, according to RTÉ and Anadolu Ajansı. [1][5][6][8][9][10]

The vote took place after former Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation from parliament in September. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Starmer had represented the seat from 2015 until 2026. Al Jazeera and the Guardian reported that Labour has held the constituency continuously since its creation in 1983. [3][4][6][12][13][14]

The byelection was widely viewed as a significant test for Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his ability to hold off a political threat from the Green Party, according to Al Jazeera and the Guardian. Polanski had hoped to break Labour's longstanding grip on the central London seat following a difficult week for his party leadership. [1][3][4][5][7]

Holborn and St Pancras is a parliamentary constituency in Greater London that covers the southeastern part of the London Borough of Camden and part of the City of London. [11][12]
