European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas told Euronews that Russia has miscalculated by trying to negotiate a deal with Washington alone. Kallas said Moscow will not succeed in forcing Ukraine to surrender through direct talks with the United States, as Europe will continue to support Kyiv and pressure the aggressor country. [1]
Kallas stated that Russia has miscalculated since last year's Anchorage summit by seeking to bypass European leadership. She added that Russian officials want to negotiate directly with the United States to force terms on Ukraine. [1]
The remarks come amidst wider warnings regarding Russian strategy in Europe. CBS News reported that Sir Ken McCallum, the head of Britain's MI5 spy agency, warned on Tuesday that Russia and Iran are using evolving hybrid tactics aimed at people, businesses, and communities. The Kyiv Post reported that Poland has urged Europe to shift to a war mode on arms as Russia produces seven million munitions. [2][4]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Western officials have continued diplomatic discussions aimed at ending the war, including talks in Miami between representatives from Ukraine, Europe, and the United States. [10]
