A 28-year-old man accused of killing former Reform UK spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe was motivated by an extreme left-wing ideology, prosecutors told the Old Bailey on October 9, 2026. According to the Daily Mail and BBC News, Joshua Kerry showed a particular hostility towards Reform UK. Prosecutors said the murder of the 78-year-old politician had a terrorist connection because it was politically and ideologically motivated. [1][2]
The Daily Mail reported that prosecutors accused Kerry of repeatedly hitting Widdecombe on the head with a hammer in her home in July. The Daily Mail also reported that Kerry had attempted to break into the home of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage months earlier. BBC News reported that Kerry was charged last week with preparing terrorist acts, involving online reconnaissance of prominent figures and institutions. [1][2]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Kerry faced a charge of preparing terrorist acts between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2026, which involved targeting Farage and trying to access his home. Widdecombe served as a Conservative member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald from 1987 to 2010 before joining the Brexit Party, later Reform UK, in 2019. Farage has served as the leader of Reform UK and a member of Parliament for Clacton since 2024. [8][9][13]
Kerry remains in custody as legal proceedings against him continue at the Old Bailey. [1][2][13]
