Israeli election finishes without majority as Netanyahu and Eisenkot deadlock
Final vote counts show Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot both fell short of a majority, setting up difficult coalition negotiations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot have both failed to secure a governing majority after all votes were counted in Israel's national election. DW reported that although Netanyahu's right-wing and religious bloc finished ahead of Eisenkot's anti-Netanyahu bloc, neither group reached the required threshold to easily form a government. ABC News Australia similarly reported that the inconclusive result leaves both leaders without a majority, forcing weeks of complex political negotiations. [1][6]
The New York Post reported earlier in the count that 5,278,597 votes had been tallied at 12,032 voting stations, with Netanyahu's Likud party holding 1,085,162 votes, or 20.65 percent. As FTMQ News reported earlier, this was the nation's first national election since the attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. [4][15]
Following the vote, Netanyahu and his party leveled sharp accusations against their political opponents. The New York Post reported that Netanyahu claimed on social media platform X that the election was stolen by Arab parties. BBC News reported that Netanyahu's Likud party also alleged foreign interference and accused Arab-led parties of stealing the vote, which main opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot and Arab leaders firmly denounced. BBC News added that the internal security agency Shin Bet opened an investigation into the matter. [2][7][8]
Netanyahu is the longest-serving prime minister in the history of Israel, having previously held the top office from 1996 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2021 before returning to power in 2022. DW reported that the country now faces tough coalition talks as both main political blocs attempt to recruit partners to form a workable administration. [1][14]
