An Illinois woman was arrested on Tuesday on first degree murder charges after allegedly driving head-on into a semi truck in an effort to kill herself and her passengers, the New York Post reported. Jamie L. Rhode, 47, of Griggsville, was driving a Toyota RAV4 along US Route 54 on July 24 when the crash occurred. [1]
According to the New York Post, the collision killed Rhode's 73-year-old mother, Cherie K. Wells, and injured her teenage son. Both victims were passengers inside the vehicle when Rhode intentionally steered in front of a semi truck pulling a trailer. [1]
Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood stated that Rhode planned to kill all three occupants because she was afraid of dying alone, the New York Post reported. Rhode was arrested by the Pike County Sheriff's Office following their investigation into the July crash. [1]
