HBO Max released a surprise special episode of IT Welcome to Derry on October 31, according to reports from UPI, Yahoo, TheWrap, and IMDb. The release was timed to coincide with Halloween. [1][2][3][4]

UPI reported that the newly released special travels further back in time to explore the origins of IT in the fictional town of Derry. The television show serves as a prequel to the horror feature films inspired by the novel by Stephen King. [1]

The first season of the series premiered in 2025 and was set in 1962 Maine, UPI reported. The narrative followed characters terrorized by Pennywise, a homicidal entity that shifts shapes and often appears dressed as a clown. The show was recently renewed for a second season, according to UPI. [1]

The television series was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs based on the 1986 novel It. Bill Skarsgard serves as an executive producer and repeats his role as Pennywise from the 2017 film It and the 2019 film It Chapter Two. Season 1 starred Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, James Remar, Chris Chalk, and Madeline Stowe. [1][5]
