Google is celebrating World Space Week with science and technology themed doodles, UPI reported on October 8. According to UPI, the Thursday Google Doodle features the Carina Nebula. Google describes the nebula as a stellar nursery spanning over 300 light years across spacetime, which contains more than a dozen of the universe's hottest, heaviest, and brightest O-type stars. [1]
The image used for the Doodle was captured in September by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, UPI reported. Additional reports from Space, Aktualita.co, Jagranjosh.com, Mashable India, and SuaraGarut.ID also confirm that Google released deep space artwork on its search page to commemorate the global event. World Space Week is an annual event observed from October 4 to October 10 in more than 95 countries. It is coordinated by the World Space Week Association and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. [7]
The United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed the event in December 1999. The chosen dates commemorate the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967. [10]
