German logistics company Rhenus Group is planning to build a new multimodal hub in the Kazakh city of Aktau and develop up to 14 terminals along the Middle Corridor, Euronews reported. The planned network will connect Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, linking the trade route directly to the infrastructure of the company in Europe. [1]

The Middle Corridor, which is also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, includes a new trimodal container terminal in Aktau. Euronews reported that the expansion could provide European businesses with more transport capacity. [1]

The Middle Corridor is a trade route that runs from Southeast Asia and China to Europe through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey. Geographically, it forms the shortest route between Western China and Europe, serving as an alternative to the Northern Corridor through Russia and the Ocean Route via the Suez Canal. [2]

The trade route has seen major developments in recent years, including the completion of the Trans-Kazakhstan railroad in 2014 and the opening of the Baku to Tbilisi to Kars railway in 2017. [2]

Rhenus Group is an international logistics service provider based in Holzwickede, Germany, and operates as a subsidiary of the German Rethmann Group. [4]
