The Group of Seven nations plan to release up to 100 million barrels of oil to curb rising energy prices, which aims to complete an earlier emergency release rather than add new volume, Euronews reported on October 8. Internal documents seen by Euronews show the barrels are part of a 400-million-barrel emergency release coordinated in March by the International Energy Agency. [1]

According to Euronews, 326 million barrels of the original 400-million-barrel commitment have been released so far. FXStreet similarly reported on October 7 that the 100 million barrels promised by the Group of Seven may already be included inside the March pledge of 400 million barrels. [1][2]

Because some member countries over-delivered on their initial commitments, the 100 million barrels highlighted in the recent Group of Seven statement will fulfill the remaining outstanding portion of the International Energy Agency initiative, Euronews reported. [1]
