A federal appeals court panel questioned Trump administration lawyers on Sunday as the government urged the court to set aside 20,000 California ballots, UPI reported. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is based in San Francisco, held the session on a videoconference. [1]
The panel appeared skeptical of the demand made by the Justice Department, according to UPI. Government lawyers asked the court to intervene two days after filing a request for California election officials to access a password-protected flash drive. The administration claims the drive contains the names of thousands of possible non-citizens who could be on the state voter rolls. [1]
The legal action follows broader federal scrutiny regarding California voting procedures. As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal authorities recently charged at least 28 foreign nationals in California with voter fraud after an investigation named Operation Protect the Vote targeted non-citizens accused of registering or voting illegally.
