The United States Department of Justice has sent grand jury subpoenas to the office of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, Fox News reported. Two sources briefed on the matter stated that the subpoenas were issued in recent days. The investigation centers on potential obstruction of justice regarding the handling of cases before federal judges. [1]

According to Fox News, the subpoenas followed a referral by a federal judge who sent Mr Krasner and his top deputy to the Department of Justice for a possible criminal investigation. The Department of Justice declined to comment on the matter, while the office of Mr Krasner did not immediately respond to a request for comment. [1]

Lawrence Samuel Krasner has served as the 26th District Attorney of Philadelphia since 2018. He was among the first candidates for district attorney in the United States to run as a self described progressive prosecutor, campaigning to reduce incarceration and reform elements of the criminal justice system. [2]
