Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary is facing calls to strengthen food safety measures for school meals following an official inspection, the Irish Examiner reported. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued a closure order after finding rodent droppings, dead insects, and unclean facilities at a premises operated by The Lunch Bag. [1]
Inspectors examined The Lunch Bag facility located at Timahoe GAA, Pairc Mhochua Cremorgan, Timahoe, in Portlaoise, according to the Irish Examiner. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland stated that the conditions at the site posed a grave and immediate danger to public health. The company was among 12 food businesses served with closure orders under food safety legislation. [1]
The issue follows earlier food safety actions in Ireland, as FTMQ News reported earlier. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland previously recalled specific batches of Ready Brek and Tesco porridge because of possible flour beetle contamination. [1][4]
