The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued a recall on Tuesday for specific batches of Ready Brek and Tesco porridge. According to independent.ie and thejournal.ie, the recall was put in place because the products may contain flour beetles. The affected products include Ready Brek Original in 750g and 450g sizes, alongside Tesco Super Smooth Porridge. [1][2][3][4]

The journal.ie reported that flour beetles measure only a few millimetres in length and are common pests that feed on grains and cereals. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland stated that the presence of these beetles makes the affected cereal batches unfit for human consumption. Retailers have been requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale displays. [2]

Ready Brek is an oat-based hot breakfast cereal that was launched in 1957 by J. Lyons and Co. after experimentation at their Greenford factory. The brand was acquired by Weetabix in 1990 and is now produced by Weetabix Limited. Tesco PLC, founded in London in 1919, is a British multinational retailer that operates grocery stores across Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Central Europe. [5][6][7]
