Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes issued an arrest warrant on Thursday for Eduardo Bolsonaro, according to Al Jazeera. Eduardo Bolsonaro is the brother of Flavio Bolsonaro, who is the favourite to win the country's upcoming presidential runoff election against incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Anadolu Ajansı reported that Justice Moraes also ordered the immediate start of his prison sentence. [1][8][9][10][11]

The legal action comes after the Brazilian Supreme Court convicted Eduardo Bolsonaro in June, Al Jazeera reported. The court found him guilty on charges of lobbying the United States to interfere in the trial of his father, former right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro. [1]

Eduardo Bolsonaro is a Brazilian politician, lawyer, and former federal police officer who serves as the third child of Jair Bolsonaro. He took a leave of absence from the Chamber of Deputies between March and July 2025 to reside in the United States, where he coordinated commercial sanctions against Brazil to try to prevent his father from being tried under Brazilian laws. [13][14]

The Supreme Federal Court acts as the highest court of law in Brazil for constitutional matters, and its decisions cannot be appealed. The arrest order is expected to heighten tensions in the political race ahead of the runoff vote. [1][12]
