Arab political parties could hold a critical balance of power in the upcoming Israeli general election, according to reports from BBC News and The Christian Science Monitor. In Nazareth, the largest Arab-majority city in Israel, students have been handing out campaign leaflets urging drivers to participate in the upcoming vote. [1][2][5]

Voter disaffection has historically lowered turnout among Arab Israelis, who make up approximately one fifth of the national population, BBC News reported. However, there is currently a strong effort to mobilize voters to replace the current right-wing governing coalition. [1][2]

Other issues are also influencing voters ahead of the election. According to The Jerusalem Post, crime policy could lead young Arab Israeli voters to support non-Arab political parties. Meanwhile, as FTMQ News reported earlier, Israel's Supreme Court unanimously overturned a ban on Arab parties running in the election, which is scheduled for 27 October 2026. [6][8]

The election comes as foreign companies abandon an Israeli cable car project, Arab News reported. Separately, The New Arab reported that Israeli troops turned an occupied Lebanese home into a polling station ahead of the vote. [3][4]
