Yves Sakila died from several factors, including cardio-respiratory arrest, after being restrained in a prone position, the Irish Examiner reported. Security staff detained the homeless man outside Arnotts department store on Henry Street in Dublin city centre before he became unresponsive. [1]

After the incident on Henry Street, emergency services brought Mr Sakila to the Mater Hospital, according to the Irish Examiner. A detective inspector told the Dublin District Coroner's Court that his body has still not been buried because his family has failed to reach an agreement. [1]

The 35 year old man was born in Congo and lived in Ireland. Video footage shared on social media showed individuals holding him on the ground for nearly five minutes, with one person appearing to kneel on his head or neck after an alleged shoplifting incident at the department store on May 15, 2026.
