Planners in Turkey and Uzbekistan are restructuring urban centers and energy networks to withstand growing environmental pressures, Euronews reported. Cities now host more than half of the global population, concentrating people and critical infrastructure in areas that are increasingly vulnerable to drought, heat waves, and severe flooding. [1]
In Turkey, officials are incorporating resilience directly into residential housing, public infrastructure, and the systems used to track renewable electricity, according to Euronews. Meanwhile, Uzbek planners are designing a major project called New Tashkent largely from the ground up to address urban density and climate challenges. [1]
Uzbekistan operates as a presidential republic under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who took office in 2016. The country recently conducted its first post-independence population census in February 2026, following its previous census under Soviet rule in 1989. [3][4]
Separately, open.kg reported that parliamentary leaders from both Turkey and Uzbekistan arrived in Bishkek to attend TurkPA meetings. [2]
