A man who fatally shot a convenience store worker is set to be executed by lethal injection in Texas on Wednesday. According to the Daily Mail and the Irish Mirror, this will be the 30th execution carried out in the United States this year. [1][9]

The execution in Texas is the first carried out in the nation since a botched execution attempt in Tennessee last week. The Mirror and the Irish Mirror reported that the Texas killer is scheduled to be executed using pentobarbital exactly one week after that incident. [9][10][11]

In Tennessee, death row inmate Christa Pike is awake and speaking in a hospital after surviving the failed execution. BBC News and the Washington Post reported that her lawyers said she is conscious and speaking. Euronews reported that Pike remains handcuffed and shackled to her hospital bed with burned and blistered arms. [2][4][5]

Pike was convicted and sentenced to death in 1996 for the 1995 murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer. Following the failed lethal injection attempt last week, Tennessee suspended executions and its prison chief resigned, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [2][5][12][16][17]
