A phase three clinical trial called HORIZON-Breast06 found that the targeted drug trastuzumab rezetecan reduced the risk of cancer progression or death by 73 percent compared with standard chemotherapy, Fox News reported. The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. [1]
Fox News reported that researchers evaluated 551 female patients with ERBB2-low metastatic breast cancer. This type of cancer features low levels of HER2, a protein that can promote the growth of cancer cells. [1]
Targeted therapy, including monoclonal antibodies and small-molecule drugs, is part of a broad range of cancer treatments that also includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. As FTMQ News reported earlier, additional screening methods such as ultrasounds are often required to detect tumors that standard mammograms miss in dense breast tissue. [3][4]
In short
- Trastuzumab rezetecan linked to a 73 percent lower risk of cancer progression or death compared to chemotherapy.
- The HORIZON-Breast06 phase three trial analyzed 551 female patients with ERBB2-low metastatic breast cancer.
- HER2 is a protein that can help cancer cells grow.
