Tampa Bay Rays even ALCS with Game 2 victory over Guardians

The Tampa Bay Rays evened the American League Championship Series at 1-1 by defeating the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2, Fox News reported. Pitcher Freddy Peralta threw six shutout innings to secure the victory for Tampa Bay. Fox News attributed the win in part to an error by Cleveland player Jose Ramirez. [1]

The Guardians had previously taken Game 1 of the series with a 7-3 victory over the Rays, according to reports from Yahoo, thecanadianpressnews.ca, couriernews.com, the Traverse City Record-Eagle, and The Tribune-Democrat. The New York Post reported that Nathaniel Lowe hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the eighth inning during that series opener, while Chase DeLauter and Jose Ramirez also helped lead Cleveland to the initial win. According to the New York Post, the Guardians started pitcher Parker Messick in Game 2 at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay. Ahead of the game, Messick held an 0-1 record with a 1.35 ERA and 15 strikeouts across two appearances against the Rays this season. Fox News noted that both franchises carry low team payrolls, with Cleveland running the lowest payroll in Major League Baseball and Tampa Bay operating with one of the three lowest. [1][4][13]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the Rays entered the postseason as the top seed after posting a 98-64 regular season record, while the Guardians finished their regular season at 85-77. Following Game 2, CBS Sports reported that both teams will take a day off on Wednesday before the series changes venue to Cleveland for Game 3. [2][17]
