Spain's government approved 21 urgent housing measures on Tuesday following nationwide protests and violence in Barcelona. Euronews reported that tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets demanding a quick resolution to the country's housing crisis. [1]

The public unrest erupted after an 87-year-old woman was evicted from her home in Madrid. Euronews reported that the eviction sparked national controversy and led to calls for the administration of Pedro Sánchez to step down. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Sánchez called a snap general election for November 29 after parliament rejected his minority government's previous housing relief measures. Sánchez has served as prime minister of Spain since 2018. [2][3]

In a televised address reported earlier by FTMQ News, Sánchez stated that he called the early election to secure a larger progressive majority in parliament to pass reform legislation. [3]
