The International Olympic Committee confirmed on Tuesday that seven countries have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics. According to the BBC and Yahoo Sports, South Africa has shown interest in becoming the first African nation to host the event. The IOC stated that all interested countries are engaged in continuous dialogue ahead of an October 31 deadline, Yahoo Sports reported. [1][2][3][6]

The BBC, Yahoo Sports, and The Guardian reported that the seven interested nations are Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, South Africa, South Korea, and Turkey. Hungary, India, Qatar, Turkey, and South Africa are aiming to become first-time Olympic hosts, while Germany and South Korea have previously hosted the Summer Games, the BBC said. [1][3][6]

According to The Guardian, South Africa will formally present its host case alongside the other nations in November. The outlet reported that a South African bid would likely be spread across Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, though Qatar is widely regarded as the frontrunner. [1]

Cape Town serves as the seat of Parliament in South Africa, which has a population of over 63 million people. The selection of the host city for the 2036 Summer Olympics will take place in 2029. [13][14]
