Crews removed the historic sign at the entrance of the Santa Monica Pier on Friday, the New York Post reported. The removal comes as the city begins a multimillion dollar project to replace the aging bridge beneath the structure. [1]

The 20-foot blue neon arch has stood above the pier entrance since 1941, according to the New York Post. Modern reports from People.com and NBC4 Los Angeles also covered the planned removal of the landmark. The sign is being shipped to Las Vegas, where manufacturer YESCO will restore it before it returns to its original location. [1][4][5]

Santa Monica is located along Santa Monica Bay on the South Coast of California. Officials noted that the sign will remain away from public view for nearly a year while work continues on replacing the 87-year-old bridge. [1][6]

The landmark sign will return to its place atop the rebuilt bridge once restoration work and construction are complete, the city stated according to the New York Post. [1]
