Romania launched a rescue operation in the Black Sea on Friday after a vessel sent a distress signal 13 miles from the port of Constanȓa. Euronews and Informat.ro both report that the ship was struck by several drones. Euronews reports that the vessel, named the Khoryv, is reported to have sunk. [1][4]
Thirteen crew members from Ukraine and Azerbaijan were on board the vessel, according to Euronews. The Romanian Naval Authority stated that rescue vessels recovered nine people alive and one body from the water. Three crew members remain missing after adverse weather conditions and reduced visibility prevented a helicopter rescue. [1]
The Black Sea is bordered by Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. As FTMQ News reported earlier, drones previously struck two ships off the Bulgarian coast, causing one vessel to sink and prompting a search for missing crew members. [5][8]
