The recently published Register of British Slave-Traders lists 13,000 men and women who profited from and invested in transatlantic slavery, according to the Guardian. The database details individuals involved in the trafficking of more than three million enslaved Africans between 1563 and 1807. [1]

According to the Guardian, the register includes a wide selection of investors, ranging from ordinary residents in provincial towns to the British monarchy. Queen Elizabeth I and members of her court were among those who invested in slave trader John Hawkins's voyages beginning in 1563. [1]

The evidence demonstrates how deeply the enslavement of Africans shaped the wealth of Britain, according to the Guardian. Caribbean scholars stated that the financial impact of the trade on British history has never been in doubt. [1]
