The bestselling author and former politician Jeffrey Archer died on Monday at the age of 86, BBC News and Reuters reported. Following his death, Queen Camilla issued a statement paying tribute to him, describing him as an irrepressible life force through all the many differing chapters of his life, according to BBC News. [1][3]

Queen Camilla said that few authors get to live a life as rich and colourful as the characters in their books, or with as many surprising plot twists, BBC News reported. She acknowledged that Archer was not without flaw, but added that his friends would remember his vibrant spirit. [1]

Archer served as a Member of Parliament for Louth between 1969 and 1974 before resigning, and was later the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. He was jailed for perjury in 2001 after being found guilty of lying and perverting the course of justice in a 1987 libel case against the Daily Star, BBC News reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, his death was announced by his publisher, Harper Collins, who stated he passed away peacefully at his home. [1][11][14]

Over his five-decade writing career, Archer sold more than 300 million books worldwide, BBC Politics reported. His final book, Adam and Eve, was scheduled to be released later this month. [6]
