Protesters demand World Medical Association suspend Israeli group in Netherlands

Hundreds of doctors gathered outside the World Medical Association summit in Rotterdam in the Netherlands to demand the suspension of the Israeli Medical Association, Al Jazeera reported on Saturday. Demonstrators accused the Israeli organization of staying silent while Palestinian healthcare is systematically destroyed. [1]

During the protest on Saturday, 81 healthcare workers took off their scrubs and hung them on a line in front of the assembly, Al Jazeera reported. Each set of scrubs displayed the name of a Palestinian healthcare worker currently held in illegal Israeli detention. NewsGram also reported that calls have been made to suspend Israel over the killing of healthcare workers. [1][2]

The World Medical Association is an independent international confederation of free professional medical associations that represents physicians globally. Formally established on September 17, 1947, the organization includes 117 national medical associations and represents more than 10 million physicians. [3]

The protest comes amid ongoing conflict in Gaza. As FTMQ News reported earlier, progressive lawmakers in the United States have previously condemned Israel for detaining Palestinian healthcare workers, including doctor Hussam Abu Safia, who was held without charge after directing the Kamal Adwan Hospital.
