Pakistan launched military strikes against targets in Afghanistan on Thursday night, according to DW and Nacionale News. DW and Nacionale News both reported that the bombing marks a new escalation in conflict between the two neighbouring nations. KabulNow reported that the military action involved Pakistani army airstrikes. [1][4][5]

The results and casualties of the military attack are disputed, DW reported. DW reported that Taliban officials said between nine and ten civilians were killed, including women and children. However, DW reported that Pakistan claimed the strike killed 22 militants and destroyed weapons and ammunition depots. [1]

KabulNow reported that the chief of the Pakistan army described the airstrikes as targeted counterterrorism actions. According to DW, Pakistan supported the Taliban in Afghanistan for many years before relations broke down. DW reported that diplomatic negotiations between the former allies continue to fail. [1][5]
