World War Two veteran Henry Rice has died at the age of 100, BBC News reported. Rice was from Cranleigh in Surrey. He served as a signalman off Normandy in the days following D-Day. [1][2]

According to BBC News, Rice was aboard HMS Eastway during the Normandy landings and arrived at Juno Beach five days after D-Day. During his service, he survived a near-miss when a torpedo was fired at his vessel. [1]

Rice received the Legion d'honneur from the French government for his service, BBC News reported.
