Samir Mohtadi, a prominent Melbourne imam, has issued a public apology following the online resurfacing of an old sermon, the Daily Mail reported. In the video, Mohtadi told male parishioners that they could hit their wives to shape them up. [1]

Mohtadi serves as the founder and leader of the MyCentre mosque located in Broadmeadows, according to the Daily Mail. The mosque recently attracted public attention due to alleged connections to Hamam al-Hammami, a flydubai co-pilot who was accused of attempting to hijack and crash an Israel-bound passenger aircraft on September 30. [1]

The top prosecutor in the United Arab Emirates stated earlier this month that al-Hammami met individuals at MyCentre while he was a student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2017, the Daily Mail reported. Days after the allegations emerged, Mohtadi strongly denied any link to the co-pilot. [1]
