Local councillors in County Cork are planning to move the Riders and Horses sculpture in Mallow to a new site, the Irish Examiner reported. Local politicians stated that they are not happy with the current location on the southern side of the town and feel it does not do the artwork justice. [1]

The 2.1 metre high sculpture was carved by hand from a 25 tonne piece of 350 million year old limestone by sculptor Michael Quane over nine months, according to the Irish Examiner. It was originally installed on the main roundabout at Annabella in Mallow in 1995. [1]

The Irish Examiner reported that the sculpture was removed from the Annabella roundabout in 2017 due to safety concerns. It was stored in a council yard before being placed adjacent to the N20 main Cork to Mallow road. [1]
