World leaders gathered at the Teatro Real in Madrid on Wednesday evening for the inauguration of the 30th Ibero-American Summit. Euronews reported that King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia inaugurated the event, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez greeted arriving delegations from the 22-member community. [1]

The gathering brings together leaders from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking nations to strengthen cooperation across Europe and Latin America. Euronews reported that despite the ceremonial welcome, only 10 countries were represented by their heads of state or government. Leaders attending include Argentina's Javier Milei, Chile's José Antonio Kast, and Guatemala's Bernardo Arévalo. [1]

Other news outlets provided additional details regarding attendance at the summit. Apa.az reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to Spain to meet Pedro Sánchez and other leaders at the event. El Constitucional noted that disagreement between Javier Milei and King Felipe VI drew attention as the meeting began. [9][11]

The Ibero-American Summit is a regular conference of heads of state and government from member nations of the Organization of Ibero-American States. Preparation and follow-up for the summits are coordinated by the permanent Ibero-American General Secretariat. [12][15]
