People gathered at the Nova music festival site and nearby Kfar Aza in southern Israel on Wednesday to mark three years since the October 7, 2023 attack. Euronews reported that visitors looked at portraits and posters of victims while the Israeli flag was lowered during memorial ceremonies. [1]
According to Euronews, the ceremonies marked the first anniversary since all the hostages taken during the initial attack were returned. Militants led by Hamas killed about 1,200 people and took 251 hostages during the 2023 assault on southern Israel. [1]
On October 7, 2023, coordinated armed incursions were carried out from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel by Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups during the holiday of Simchat Torah. In response, Israel launched a major military operation in Gaza. [6]
