An Garda Síochána has confirmed third party unauthorized access to two of its official X accounts, the Irish Examiner reported. The national police force warned the public not to interact with content posted on the compromised accounts following the breach on Wednesday night. [1]
The compromised social media profiles include the main @GardaInfo and @GardaTraffic accounts on X, formerly known as Twitter. According to the Irish Examiner, the accounts removed some of their official branding and published scores of posts related to a cryptocurrency. [1]
Some of the unauthorized posts appeared to target individual users while remaining visible to hundreds of people, the Irish Examiner reported. A civil rights group described the security incident as extremely worrying. [1]
The incident follows a separate international cybersecurity breach earlier this week, as FTMQ News reported earlier. That previous incident involved the United States military Defense Manpower Data Center, which exposed Social Security numbers and records belonging to more than three million people. [2]
