Three sisters whose bodies were pulled from the water off Brighton beach on 13 May took their own lives, a coroner ruled on 8 October. According to BBC News, The Daily Mail, and the London Evening Standard, an inquest concluded that Jane Adetoro, aged 36, Christina Walters, aged 32, and Rebecca Walters, aged 31, died in a suicide pact. [1][2][3][7]
BBC News reported that the three women were living together in Greenford, London. Two days before they entered the water, the sisters traveled to an area of Birmingham. The Daily Mail noted that they visited the location where their mother took her own life 16 years earlier. [1][3]
The sisters then traveled to Brighton, as reported by BBC News. Senior coroner Penelope Schofield stated that the women entered the water off Brighton beach, faced adverse sea conditions, and could not swim. Family members, including their father Joseph Jacobsen, followed the inquest proceedings through a video link. [1]
Brighton emerged as a seaside resort in the late 18th century. It became prominent under the patronage of George, Prince of Wales, who expanded a residence there into the Royal Pavilion. [9]
