The Health Service Executive has cleared the final obstacle to submitting a planning application for a long delayed elective hospital in Cork, the Irish Examiner reported. Fine Gael TD Colm Burke said final agreement has been reached with all local landowners to construct a new access road. [1]
The new facility is planned for the former St Stephen's hospital site located at Sarsfield's Court in Glanmire, according to the Irish Examiner. Progress on the project had been delayed due to concerns that existing local road infrastructure could not support the construction phase or the completed facility. [1]
The HSE previously informed the Oireachtas health committee in November about the infrastructure challenges facing the site, the Irish Examiner said. Reaching an agreement with the landowners allows the access road project and the main planning application to proceed. [1]
