Gianni Infantino received undisclosed payment for 2026 World Cup work

FIFA President Gianni Infantino received an undisclosed one-time payment of 1.72 million dollars from the United States based nonprofit entity that ran the 2026 World Cup. UPI and multiple media outlets reported that the payment was revealed in Internal Revenue Service documents made public on October 13, 2026. The Times was the first outlet to report the financial details. [1][3][4][5][6]

The investigation showed that FWC2026, the company established to run the 2026 World Cup events in the United States, listed the 1.72 million dollar payment on its IRS Form 990. The filing covers compensation for the 2024 tax year, according to UPI. [1]

Infantino is a Swiss football administrator who has served as the president of FIFA since 2016. He previously served as the Secretary General of UEFA from 2009 to 2016 and has been an International Olympic Committee member since 2020. [7]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, European football governing body UEFA published criteria to find a candidate to challenge Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election. UEFA met with 55 member federations to set the requirements ahead of the November 18 candidate submission deadline. [9]
