French artificial intelligence company Mistral announced on Tuesday the upcoming release of its new model named Le Chonk. Deutsche Welle reported that the open-weight model is aimed at users who wish to keep their data private. [1]

The model, officially named Mistral Large 4, marks the company's first model release in five months. According to Deutsche Welle, Mistral stated that the model outruns several Chinese competitors in multiple areas. Most popular artificial intelligence models from companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic rely on closed models instead. [1]

Mistral AI was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in Paris, France. By 2025, the company had reached a valuation of more than 14 billion United States dollars, which is the highest valuation among European artificial intelligence companies. [2]

Le Chonk will be made publicly available on October 27, 2026. Deutsche Welle reported that cybersecurity experts and government authorities will receive early access to a version of the model. [1]
