Colombia's former first lady Verónica Alcocer denied on Wednesday that she used a government aircraft to transport drugs and millions of dollars between Colombia and Venezuela. UPI reported that Alcocer has requested prosecutors to clarify whether they have opened a new criminal investigation regarding the allegations. [1]

According to UPI, the United States State Department stated it was aware of reports alleging the former first lady's involvement in the flights. White House Correspondent Juan Esteban Silva published the department's statement on X on Wednesday. UPI noted that the official response did not confirm the allegations and did not announce a new United States investigation. [1]

The allegations involve movement between Colombia and neighbouring Venezuela. Independent from Spanish rule since 1810, Colombia operates under a 1991 constitution as a unitary decentralized state. [1][3]
